In the past I've used the Universal Postal Union standards, at least as far as Raiser's Edge will allow (there are some odd standards like some former Soviet Union states needing the name of the country in the first line...)
Technically you wouldn't need to put anything in the Attributes or Address Attributes field to indicate that the address is international; a simple "Country = United States" in any Query should eliminate them. However, in some cases we've added them...for example a university with a lot of Canadian students or alumni might add a Canada field to the Address Attributes, and in Miami we used an Address Attributes field called "Continent" so we could flag South American or Caribbean students and alumni.

For all those who are currently using The Raiser's Edge product in their shop, how are you addressing the International Addresses that you are receiving (especially the Country and State fields)? Are you currently using Universal Postal Union and/or Bitboost standards? Are there any other standards that you have found works best with your shop? Are you adding any type of Attribute, Address Type, or other indicator, to distinguish an international address vs. a domestic address outside of the country name? Any information regarding this would be greatly appreciated.

Subject: Financial Edge Question
For those shops operating with Financial Edge NXT, how do you manage communicating budget reports at key intervals to various budget managers in your organization, sharing the remaining balance in certain accounts? We are pursuing a switch to NXT, and figuring out this step is a sticking point for us.
Currently, we have an automated system that uses FE Queue to produce reports and place them in folders on shared drives, accessible by the budget managers. We're self-hosted, so this all takes place on-site. We're unsure how this would translate to a cloud environment, and have not received a great solution from Blackbaud yet.
I'd love learning how your accounting departments handle this at your organization.

It looks like asking this question has amassed some interest in an open discussion about how others are effectively using Campaigns, Funds, Appeals and Packages in RE/NXT. There also seems to be a trend toward "we're going to be upgrading to NXT soon" and ensuring effective reporting associated with that conversion. I'm surprised someone from Blackbaud or a consultant hasn't chimed in yet. :)
I'm happy to set up a Google Meet for those interested in sharing how they're using Campaigns, Funds, Appeals and Packages and for others to learn some new practices. I have scheduled a few preliminary calls this week and what I learn during those discussions will sort of set our group conversation. I'll be out of the office next week so the call will be during the week of August 19th. I'll schedule the meeting for the middle of the day CST so those on the coasts can have a reasonable opportunity to join.
To keep emails on the FUNDSVCS list to a minimum, I will invite those who responded off-list. If you can join, great. If you want to be invited, please email me off-list. The threading for this new version of the listserv is a bit odd, so hopefully I catch everyone who responded. Again, if I miss you in the invite, please email me off-list.

Thank you all for the great information below! I’m having trouble addressing the reciprocal benefits and gift shop/café discounts many memberships provide. No problem for the $75 and below memberships since they can be disregarded, but once you get above that level it seems impossible to assign even a good faith estimate of the fmv to the reciprocal benefits through NARM, for example, or even gift shop/café discounts. Apologizing in advance for this question, as I’m sure it’s already been asked.
Any advice on this piece specifically?

Eric's understanding of the law is similar to mine.
For membership levels at $75 or below there is a wide range of benefits that can be granted. Those are stated in IRS Publication 526. For membership levels above that amount, all of the additional benefits awarded must be valued for QPQ purposes. The discounted attendance will be a tough one as you must assume the member will have the ability to attend all of those events. The "free" stuff must be determined based on the FMV of those items. And the exclusive opportunities will need to be calculated based on each activity and what tangible benefit they receive.
Of course, you can just forget trying to calculate any deduction. As only 8% of taxpayers last year itemized their tax returns I doubt that many of these people are really going to need a tax receipt. I bet you could offer these memberships by marketing "all proceeds will benefit . . ." and you will still get as many members as you would a promise of a $5 (or whatever) tax deduction.

Good afternoon,
One of our units has begun a new contribution-based membership program. There is a “free” level that will give a member certain perks, but supporters beginning at $125 in cumulative annual gifts to the unit will earn additional perks including discounted attendance to events, free items, and exclusive opportunities with unit staff. Valuing the benefits will not be an easy task, but determining the gift that qualifies the donor for a certain level will be even harder.
Does anyone have experience or wisdom with properly receipting gifts that result in cumulative annual giving benefits?
I found several other membership conversations on the listserv, but I didn’t see any with this specific question. Please excuse me if this is a repeat.

I'm leading an in-house RE training next week in an attempt to get everyone using the database the correct way; we will be focusing on actions, proposals and notes.
I've done these before but wondering if anyone has specific points, advice, testimonials that really resonated with your fundraisers. I know the key is getting leadership to adopt "if it's not in RE, it didn't happen;" we're not quite there yet. We have some folks that don't use the database at all, and some that put in EVERYTHING as an action.
I know it's a broad question....so any "ah-ha" moments are much appreciated!!
