Hello Fundlist Folks! I have a question for those of you who have run a Day of Giving at your institution. Have you found it more effective to allow donors to give to any fund at the University during that day, or to focus the messaging towards a few specific funds? We have secured $50,000 to use as "incentive money" for this event and have decided to focus on the number of donors rather than the total amount of dollars. We're thinking the message will be something like "If 500 donors give on this day, a donor will give $50,000 to the general scholarship fund." We will be using GiveCampus as our online giving platform. My thought would be to include any campus group (Deans, athletic coaches, students, etc) that want to participate and are willing to put in the work to make their project successful, to raise money for their group. Any overall words of advice or caution when undertaking a project like this? Thank you in advance! -- *Ryan Malecha* *Freed-Hardeman University* *Associate Vice-President for Community Engagement* *731-989-6022*

We did our first one last September. It was geared towards a specific fund only and we did allow new pledges. It was a massive hit and we got more donors that day than any other day this year. We list a few funds on the webpage (also Give Campus) but allow an "other" box for them to designate to a fund of their choice. -- ======================================================================== Cindy J. We allow all and also include pledge payments. The incentive is about urgency, timing, and participation, not programmatic focus. At least here. My thoughts. We have run a day of giving using GiveCampus for the past 3 years, specifically focused on our annual fund. Each year, it has been growing in popularity and success. The one day of giving that we tried with various designations was targeted at our athletic alumni and parents. Donors could choose the team’s project they wished to support. That did not go as well, but could have been largely due to a limited audience. Personally, I like the simplicity of one fund, because that’s where we’ve seen success. We allow donors to give to any fund. A lot of the funds are selectable on the giving sites but we give donors the option to type a comment to indicate where they want their gift to go.
