Subject: Re: [FUNDSVCS] Question about a fellowship
It was not a gift to you, Michael. No funds were given to your organization irrevocably to be awarded to an appropriate pool of students ultimately selected by you.
This is strictly between the individual and the organization. Depending on the nature of the organization and fellowship conditions the student may have tax obligations. But, again, that is between the awardee and awarder.

Good morning, all –
If a university grad student applies for and receives a fellowship from an organization, can/should Advancement record the fellowship as a gift?
Please forgive me if this has been discussed on the listserv before; I may have missed those discussions while trying to use the site’s new search functionality.
Many thanks,
