  • 1.  Employee Deductions and ADP

    Posted 06-05-2019 10:11 AM
Good morning! I'm interested in folks who use ADP for their payroll systems and employee deductions. We are having a bit of trouble with HR not wanting to track the designations that deductions are directed toward. I've asked functionality questions and want to know what is able to be stored on a deduction record in ADP. My thought is that payroll deductions are a standard function of a university and for HR to not want to do them is not a reason to suspend them and possibly set everyone up with a recurring gift. Would appreciate any knowledge or thoughts on ADP deductions. -- Teresa R. Goddard Director of Development Services 765-658-4277 <(765)%20658-4277> (Office) 765-562-2481 <(765)%20562-2481> (Cell)

If you are unable to get HR to cooperate, I would work directly with the employees and obtain pledge agreements indicating where their gifts should go and then recording pledges on their records, so there's no question of designation. Then you always have that one or two employees that want to designate their deduction to 10 different places. Maybe ADP has a limit on deduction types. We don't use ADP though. Like everyone else, Advancement tracks pledge info (designation, amount, length). HR only deducts from the payroll. We then enter the gifts into our system for tracking. Then we send a report to our finance office to ensure the deductions make it to there intended propose. The process starts in the Office of Advancement. *Ariel A. I agree with John and Aaron. We receive all of the pledges for all of our employees at all five hospitals and we process those payroll deductions with our payroll department. We have minor restrictions with our payroll deductions, just due to their capability, things like we can only do deductions for a full year or one-time deductions and we can only do PTO deductions one time a year, but we would never ask payroll to track funds for our deductions because we track that in our own system.
