The optics of this aren't the best. And whether the prospect can claim as a tax-deduction paying for their own meal is dubious. I am not even convinced paying for the fundraisers qualify, either. I get that the organization would have covered the costs *as a business expense*, but not as a charitable donation. I would instead let the prospect file for an expense reimbursement which would be paid out of a business expense account and then they can make a charitable donation if they felt inclined. Two fundraisers take a donor out for dinner at a restaurant to discuss the donor's next gift to the organization. The organization would ordinarily pay for the meal for all three attendees. The donor picks up the whole tab instead and asks for a receipt for the gift-in-kind of buying the two fundraisers dinner. Thoughts? Okay as long as it's just the portion for the two fundraisers? John, would this be a different result: We had a team of veterans who were running the Boston Marathon have dinner at a restaurant in Boston. The owner of the restaurant reduced the total bill by $2k. GIK?
