  • 1.  Where does gift processing report

    Posted 05-20-2019 01:57 PM
Several years ago a decision was made to change the reporting relationship for our gift processing team. At the time, gift processing had a joint reporting relationship to our institutionally related foundation as well as Advancement Services. After an audit of the foundation, it was determined that this joint reporting relationship was not ideal. The final decision (that I was not involved in) was to change the gift processing team’s reporting relationship to fall completely under the foundation, instead of completely under Advancement Services. Our current Vice President, who has been here for about 1½ years, has asked me to put together a proposal to move the team back under Advancement Services. I believe that most gift processing teams report to Advancement Services, but I wondered if anyone has had to put a similar proposal together. Also, any suggestions I what I should focus on (stewardship, integral part of the fundraising team so that they are less transactional, better understanding of what a ‘minor’ mistake might mean for our fundraising efforts??). Thanks in advance for any assistance you can give me. Kathy Kathleen E. Hi Kathy, If you’re an AASP member you should have access to the 2018 AASP Salary Survey Report conducted by BWF and I highly recommend you download it. It has excellent information. https://www.advserv.org/page/aasp-surveys/ According to the survey, 90.8% of the institutions which responded indicated that gift processing/bio records was part of their Advancement Services department. However, this was down from 98.2% reported in 2015. Hope this helps, Eric Eric F.
