Hi Michael,
Thank you for your feedback.
We have selected a vendor to append our records with emails. Prior to sending our data to the vendor, I came across Blackbaud's Acceptable Use Policy. According to Blackbaud's Acceptable Use Policy, if you purchase or use lists of email addresses from third parties, the list owners must use their own brands and email systems to invite subscribers to opt in to receive email from your organization. Once you obtain consent for those recipients, you may then use Blackbaud’s products to send email to them.
However, if Blackbaud provides you an email address via Email Finder (which utilizes an opt-out process) they are valid for you to send email to for fundraising and marketing purposes as long as you can confirm that the consent is implied. Blackbaud has written their policy so that there are different set of rules for vendors versus themselves.
That being said, if you append emails from a third party vendor, how do you get around Blackbaud’s Acceptable use policy?
Thank you,
Allan Hernandez

Good morning, Allan -
We have used Blackbaud's email append services each of the last two years. We are also looking at layering on another append with AlumniSync. I know that if you look through the Fundsvcs archives, there are a number of discussions with a fairly comprehensive list of vendors.
I don't have any feedback on whether one vendor is better than another, but I've had multiple Advancement Services professionals recommend to me that switching vendors each year can allow an institution to benefit from the unique strengths of each vendor.
We do not use Blackbaud's email products, so I can't speak to them.
