Annual Appeal Manager
Reports to: Treasurer & CFO
I. BASIC FUNCTION AND PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Annual Appeal Manager is responsible for creating, building out, and executing a comprehensive, year-round fundraising plan for the recently-established Annual Appeal of The Episcopal Church. The fundraising plan will include goals, strategies, and programming that aim to build and engage our donor base. This person will also work to ensure effective administration of Annual Appeal gifts through acknowledgment letters, recognition of donors and the delivery of any necessary reports and communications to supervisors and, upon request, to the Presiding Bishop Michael B. Curry.
II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS
* Creates and implements strategies to achieve annual appeal goals (e.g., financial, participation levels).
* Establishes and procures potential donor lists with support from the Office of Development colleagues and others.
* Creates and manages an appeal schedule that utilizes a variety of methods (e.g., direct mail, electronic appeals, print advertising, face-to-face solicitations) to communicate with potential and current donors.
* Work collaboratively with members of the Office of Development and the Communications Office to coordinate appropriate annual appeal solicitations, including strategy and stewardship of donors and prospects.
* Maintains an annual giving section on the website.
* Works with database manager/gift processor to manage gift acknowledgment procedures; reviews gifts and gift card responses; reviews and updates all letters; periodically review pledge reminders; creates fresh language based on the church calendar for electronic and print acknowledgments.
* Prepares relevant annual appeal reports as requested.
* Leads Campaign meetings and discussion.
* Identifies and qualify a pool of managed prospects with the development research officer.
* Cultivates, solicits and stewards a pool of managed prospects in coordination with other development officers. Creates and implements a donor recognition "society".
* Utilizes Raiser's Edge to track visits, produce contact notes, and conduct appropriate constituent follow-up.
* Works with development research officer and other development officers to develop process for moving annual appeal prospects to major gifts pipeline.
III. QUALIFICATIONS
* Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
* Minimum of five years of experience successfully managing non-profit Annual Appeal.
* Strong analytical, creative and strategic thinking skills
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, good interpersonal skills, strong organization skills and attention to detail
* Excellent skills using office technology and information systems (including Word, Excel Outlook, Access, PowerPoint) and donor databases, preferably Raiser's Edge
* Entrepreneurial thinker with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Familiarity with The Episcopal Church helpful but not required
IV. WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL EFFORT
* Typically sits at a desk or computer workstation
* Frequent travel with some weekend and evening responsibilities
* Preferably New York-based
