First, you really do not need to say much to comply with the IRS regulations. My preferred style is to begin the acknowledgment with something like, "Thank you so much for your thoughtful gift of a 1950 Steinway Grand Piano to be used by our Music Department. This generous gift may require the filing of IRS Form 8283. Please seek guidance from your tax advisor." Then you simply add a paragraph regarding the Music Department and maybe another paragraph about the University. At the bottom of the letter, in the footer, you simply add, "Unless otherwise indicated above, no goods or services were provided in exchange for your gift." Second, one of the best collections of acknowledgments I have seen is maintained by Lynne Wester: https://www.donorrelationsguru.com/library John John H. Taylor Principal, John H. Hello everyone, I am trying to change our Gift In Kind Acknowledgements and I am hoping y'all can help. At the moment our Gift In Kind Acknowledgements are basically the IRS regulations and at the very bottom we list the item and the department or the program the item was given to. I am wanting to change it up so the acknowledgement is more about the University with some information about the IRS regulations. I am hoping that someone out there can give me some examples that they use for this. I went on the CASE website to see if there were some examples on there, but could not find any (I might be looking in the wrong place). You are to omit values - per IRS Publication 1771. I cannot address examples placed on other websites. John John H. Taylor Principal, John H. One of Lynne's GIK letters includes the value of the item. I thought we were supposed to leave that out? Thanks!
