I am the Assistant Director of Advancement Operations and Analytics, and I report to the Senior Director of Advancement Services in the Division of Alumni Relations and Development, which is under a university VP. I mostly handle reporting and dashboards. Our Director of Prospect Research (in Advancement Services) also does some modeling and analytics, including engagement scores. His skills in those areas are more advanced than mine. We're also celebrating 150 years, so Happy Birthday! We have a Sr. Strategic Analyst on our Advancement team. While he reports directly to our VP for Institutional Advancement, he works very closely with me and my Data Analyst/Report Writer on the Advancement Services team. My staff member is more technical as he supports the data warehouse, reporting environment and tools and runs the complex queries. The Sr. Strategic Analyst interprets the results, performs other analyses and works with our Lead Generation Coordinator in identifying prospects and lead strategy. We partner with a vendor to produce an engagement score and our Sr. Strategic Analyst works on that and identifies strategies and recommendations based on the scores. We also have a comprehensive data analytics team here at our University called HelioCampus and they have done some large data anytics projects for us based on annual giving, first time donor trends and alumni relations. Hope that helps feel free to ping me with more specific questions. *Rebecca Boughamer*Assistant Vice President, Advancement Services | University of Maryland University College 3501 University Blvd E | Adelphi, MD 20783 Office: 301-985-7561 | Fax: 301-985-7111 | Mobile: 301-892-1277 | rebecca.boughamer@umuc.edu <rboughamer@umuc.edu> UMUC Advancement Services Intake Form <https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScbK2bxhD80G_TWxn-FFjOYHG3j7uZXPL23BEjEoJA5fKn9_Q/viewform?usp=sf_link> UMUC IA Data Request Form <http://goo.gl/forms/eKbIEUBqKF> | UMUC IA Research Request Form <http://goo.gl/forms/dw7EMtguDR> On Fri, Mar 1, 2019 at 1:53 PM Jessica Kuhlman <jessica.kuhlman@wpaog.org> wrote: > For those of you who have staff responsible for data analytics, who do > they report to and in what functional areas do they reside (fundraising, > communications and marketing, etc.)? For those of you who have staff responsible for data analytics, who do they report to and in what functional areas do they reside (fundraising, communications and marketing, etc.)? Also, are you university advancement, a foundation, alumni association, etc.? (I am mainly interested in analytics as it pertains to fundraising and alumni relations, not admissions, institutional research, etc.) We are a separate 501c3 alumni association, which is also the fundraising operation. We have just started moving toward more data driven fundraising and other activities and so far we have created a Donor Strategy and Analytics team in Development (which consists of analysts type positions and prospect researchers so far). As we move more into the analytics space, we are wondering how other shops are positioning their more analytical staff. Jessica A. Hi Jessica, For our organization, it depends on your focus. We have an Analyst on the Research team, and their focus is with Major Gift Fundraising. On our technical team, we have a Data Scientist, BI Developer, Analyst, etc. We are focused on providing enterprise solutions for our University and Healthcare system. We are all part of Advancement. We provide predictive modeling outcomes for the Research Analyst, along with reports, dashboards, large data pulls, etc. Cheers, David David B. Ritchie
