I normally take the word of the check issuer. They must have gotten that name from somewhere! But when in doubt I call either or both the check issuer and individual. And I absolutely make those calls if the purpose of the gift isn't clear. John John H. Taylor Principal, John H. Afternoon, How do other institution process a check that arrives from Charles Schwab or Fidelity with no other supporting documentation, but a reference to the donor on the check. Do you process as a DAF, giving primary credit to Charles Schwab/Fidelity and soft credit to the donor noted on check? Do you contact Schwab or Fidelity for direction? Contact the specified donor?
