Francis - I've seen this happen many times and at one past institution we all knew when a gift came from a certain donor - always less than $100 - there would likely be at least a dozen or more "tribute" notifications associated with the gift. While it can be a wee bit frustrating as well as time consuming to fulfill these requests I honestly believe that as good stewards to our donors and our organizations we need to take this stuff with a grain of salt. Such transactions are typically such a small count in comparison to the overall flow and we will always be faced with outliers like this. IMHO, setting a minimum for enabling tribute recognition would do far more damage to goodwill for your institution than simply getting these done and out of the queue. Does anyone have minimums or guidelines for gifts made in memory/honor of others? We received a gift of $25 to the annual fund with a request that the gift be in memory of 9 different people. When gifts of memory/honor are made we send notification (without dollar amount) to the individual or heirs. Appreciate hearing if your institution sets any guidelines for such. Hi Francis, We are a University and Health System, and we receive many smaller donations for in Honor to either Alumni or Physicians. We acknowledge all the same way, irrespective of dollar amount of the gift. We make no restrictions on the number of Tributes. Like Amy outlined below, at my current Institution and my prior institution that were many donors that did a list of In Honor for their gift each year. We are appreciative of the gift and the time that went into Honoring the people. Like your institution, we will make the Honoree aware of the gift, but not the amount. Cheers, David David B. Ritchie
