Assistant Director of Donor Services
Essential Job Duties
Donor Services is seeking an Assistant Director of Donor Services, who will
focus on gift agreements, naming opportunities and gift acceptance, who
enjoys working in a fast-paced and innovative team environment. The ideal
candidate will have excellent writing skills, an understanding of naming
opportunities, experience in writing and interpreting policy, legal
agreements and/or contracts, capable of working with processes that require
analytical skills and problem-solving, being responsible for many
simultaneous and detail-oriented duties and working directly with
front-line fund development staff and facility staff.
*This position will be responsible for the following:*

Supervise staff focused on gift agreements, naming opportunities and
gift acceptance.

Exercise independent decision-making and authority in programs related
to gift agreements, naming opportunities and gift acceptance.

Manage the gift agreement queue by assigning gift agreements to Donor
Services Specialists and partnering with the Director in a weekly analysis
of gift agreement workflow.

Negotiate, draft and implement clear and concise complex, VIP or
leadership donor gift agreements that thoughtfully and strategically
balance the donor’s wishes with the university’s needs and which comply
with federal, state and university agreement for the administration of
central gifts.

Collaborate with the Director in conducting a monthly review of gift
agreements for checks and balances, benchmarking and to identify
opportunities for internal gift agreement training.

Manage the donor-funded naming program with established guidelines and
standards in its entirety.

Manage the naming databases and reports to ensure the accuracy of data
and compliance with naming standards.

Coordinate with the Office of the Architect on database upgrades and
training of database users for the naming module.

Assist in consulting with partners on discussing the donor-funded naming
process, tailored processes and alternative solutions.

Liaising between Advancement and the Office of the Architect and Office
of Capital Project Management to properly assist facilities for naming
opportunities and recommended gift minimums.

Coordinate communication, in written and oral form, detailed and
technical program information, guidelines and
standards/statutes/codes/regulations to various audiences to ensure that
they understand the information and the message, and to seek compliance.

Coordinate the Board of Trustees (BoT) approval process by tracking and
communicating the process and liaising between University Advancement,
college/units and Advancement Services.

Assist the director in reviewing and providing guidance on unusual or
complex gift acceptance.

Liaising between Donor Services and General Counsel concerning gift
agreements and naming opportunities legal review and approval.

Other job duties or projects as assigned.
*Minimum Experience/Education*
Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience related to the area of
assignment; or and equivalent combination of training and experience.
*Departmental Required Skills*
- At least three years experience working in one of the following
environments: higher education environment, legal, policy analysis or
development, stewardship/donor relations. or advancement services.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and take initiative along
with the ability to collaborate closely with the team and external partners.
- Effective verbal and written communication.
- Expert with Microsoft Applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint,
etc.).
- Ability to quickly learn new software applications.
- Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Experience working with confidential information.
- Experience translating policy to clients.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Expertise in writing, including the use of English grammar,
punctuation, spelling and syntax.
- Ability to conduct independent research.
- Has at least one year experience supervising staff.
*Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education*
- Master’s degree or Juris Doctor degree
- Experience in professional writing and editing.
- Experience in a database system and process tracking experience.
- Proficient in project management or has an understanding of
construction.
- An extensive understanding of fundraising or understanding of donor
relations
