Hi Tom, I am not sure if there is such a thing as "industry standard" rate of attrition. That said, certainly, it would be helpful to ask those who unsubscribe, their reason for doing so. A lot of times, people unsubscribe because they think they are being sent too many emails, or that the content is no longer relevant. By reviewing the feedback and altering communication strategy, it's possible to reduce this rate. *Medha Nanal* *Strategic Data & CRM Consulting for Nonprofit Organizations* (Fundraising, Programs, Operations, Communications) 650-600-9374 www.topcloudconsult.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On Fri, Feb 8, 2019 at 2:19 PM Eck, Shelby <sr-eck@wiu.edu> wrote: > Our rate is 13.7% for opting out of any form of emails. > > Shelby Eck > Director of Prospect Research > Western Illinois University > Foundation and Development Office > Sherman Hall 309 > 1 University Circle > Macomb IL 61455-1390 > (309)298-1874 > > > On Fri, Feb 8, 2019 at 11:17 AM Boren, Tom <BorenT@missouri.edu> wrote: > >> We have been reviewing the number of alumni we have an email address for >> and comparing it to those who have opted out of receiving emails from the >> University. >> >> >> >> It appears that of those we have a valid email address for, 18% have >> chosen not to receive emails from MU. We have been reviewing the number of alumni we have an email address for and comparing it to those who have opted out of receiving emails from the University. It appears that of those we have a valid email address for, 18% have chosen not to receive emails from MU. I am wondering if that is an unusually high rate compared to other institutions? Formula we used was number of alumni coded "do not email" divided by the # of alumni with a valid email address. Thanks. We have studied when large numbers unsubscribe and it is either after a new email append or giving day/other major push we do.
