Same concept - but the devil is in the details. Many of those 5K promotions are actually misleading as they do not account for the t-shirt (or other swag) that is given and subject to the IRS QPQ requirements. But as long as participants do not receive anything (but do give away sweat), then you are in good shape (literally and figuratively). John John H. Taylor Principal, John H. They are voluntarily paying to participate - and not getting anything for it. However, I dare say that under the new tax laws few participants will claim a deduction and, at under $250 do not even need a receipt. John John H. Taylor Principal, John H. We're having a spin class at one of our hospital gyms to raise funds for the hospital. I've looked online and seen several organizations that have 5K runs and the price to participate is fully tax-deductible and I'm thinking this is the same concept. Thoughts? Thank you so much! You always make me feel better when I have to go back to higher ups with an answer other than what they’re expecting. 😊 Heidi Howard, bCRE-Pro, bCRP Annual Giving/Database Administrator Samaritan Foundations P: 541.768.5547 C: 503.580.0670 From: Advancement Services Discussion List <FUNDSVCS@LISTSERV.FUNDSVCS.ORG> On Behalf Of John Taylor Sent: Tuesday, February 05, 2019 11:19 AM To: FUNDSVCS@LISTSERV.FUNDSVCS.ORG Subject: Re: [FUNDSVCS] Event revenue WARNING: This email originated from outside of SHS. We looked at what similar races would cost to participate in and use that as an FMV of the benefit of the actual race. Then add in the shirt. -jsg _____________________ Joshua S.
