Good morning, How many of you have on-campus public radio stations and are treating their underwriting payments as a charitable contribution? I have been researching this, and I am leaning towards that we can count them. I have searched the archives for past discussion and am not coming up with a clear yes or no that this is allowed. Thanks. Colleen Colleen Hobson Senior Director Advancement Services Utah State University Tel: 435-797-1285 Fax: 435-797-1364

When I used to work in public radio (WBFO-Buffalo), our underwriting payments were always charitable contributions. Obviously you have to follow all of the guidelines to not cross over into "advertising" territory, but that is why we call it "underwriting." Amy L. Colleen, We have that here at Syracuse. We keep the underwriting grants in a separate chartstring from regular donations from supporters, but they do go on as a charitable contribution (as long as they're not advertising). --Jodie Jodie M.
