I think it is a function of how often the funds move to you. We get a JE transfer from payroll to our clearing account monthly, so we load that file into Advance monthly with each transaction counting as a single gift (multi-allocations are still one overall gift). We used to carry annual pledges for each employee, but the monthly changes made that extremely difficult to manage so we stopped. When we were booking pledges, we wouldn't do more than the current FY so as to not overstate receivables in a meaningful way.

Subject: [FUNDSVCS] How Giving through Employee Payroll direct deposit is counted in fundraising analysis
Hi Fundlisters,
Questions have come up today regarding how we tally employees who give through payroll direct deposit.
How does your organization handle these gifts:
Total the giving for the year and count as one gift. << This lowers # of gifts but raises average gift size.)
i.e. Julie gives $3 per pay period, 26 pay periods, total gift = $78, counted as one gift.
or
Treat each gift per pay period as one gift. << This sends # of gifts high and average gift size low (many give $3/pay period)
i.e. Julie gives $3 per pay period. $3 counted 26 times.
Thank you all in advance for your time and effort!
