  • 1.  Question on Form 8283

You can remind the donor of the possible need. But never send them out as the IRS frequently changes the form and you could be sending the wrong version for that tax year. Hi Diane, I don’t know how your fundraising shop works, but I’d also pass along John’s recommendation to your development officers. You may find that they are often quite eager to please donors and will proactively provide them the 8283s to fill out, or worse fill it out for them. If you believe they’ll be inclined to do so, you may want to remind them not to do this. -Eric Eric F. It’s also worth mentioning that one of the certifications that the donee makes in the Donee Acknowledgment in Section B, Part IV of the 8283 is that it “received the donated property as described in Section B, Part I, above.” If the donor has not yet completed Section B, Part I, it’s not possible to attest to that! My US$0.02 worth; the usual disclaimers apply. Good luck! Alan Alan S. Hejnal Data Quality Manager Smithsonian Institution - Office of Advancement 600 Maryland Avenue SW, Suite 600E P.O.
