That will depend much on what sort of experience the Director has - and
what professional development they have previously had.
If they are entirely new to advancement services - with zero background our
experience - then I would strongly suggest CASE's Summer Institute in
Advancement Services. I would absolutely schedule them for aasp Summit in
Chicago this September. If they are new to the profession, they should
attend the newcomers pre-conference workshop at Summit. There are no
Summit details posted yet, but the conference dates are September 9-11.
Personally, unless you have more information to share about this
individual's background, what areas they will oversee, and whether they
have led similar activities elsewhere, it probably makes the most sense to
let the person come on board, and themselves figure out what they need PD
in. They might have basic AS experience but missing details in certain
areas like prospect development, donor relations, IT, etc. More focused
training might be a solution.
Budget is going to dictate - SIAS is anything but cheap! The
Earlybird rate for CASE members is $2,370. aasp Summit, on the other hand,
is $425 (Earlybird) for aasp members.
