We're reviewing our policies and procedures and are interested in how other organizations record gifts of service and gifts of partial interest, which are not tax-deductible and not countable. We use Raiser's Edge, in case any other RE users want to provide specifics. Many of my clients will enter soft-credit only for these. However, some development systems do not allow soft-credit when there is no legal gift. So for those systems, I suggest creating a non-gift gift type (NG in most cases) and recording the gift using that. Of course, that also means having to change all of your reports and receipt programs to ignore that gift type. I also strongly suggest that recording these should be the exception rather than the norm. My personal stance is to not record them unless they would make a meaningful difference to their recognition level. John John H. Taylor Principal, John H. A nice thank you letter with no mention of value or implied deductibility, for sure. Thanks John. I assume you would still acknowledge these since, even if not tax-deductible, from the donor’s perspective, they made a gift – correct?
