We are considering establishing venture philanthropy at our institution, particularly centered around our alumni entrepreneurs. We would look to donors to fund it, similar to the program at Indiana University (https://engagement.iu.edu/engagement/venture-fund/index.html).

We are wondering if any other institutions out there are doing this and if there are any success stories or potential pitfalls to share.

CASE conducted an excellent session on this topic last year. You may try contacting the presenters:

I am also attaching an older CASE Currents article (I have permission to use). The highlighted text is my doing as I used this article in a workshop I conducted last year. It may not be useful to you given the age of the article, but I thought I would share it with you.

Hi Tammy - we at Colorado School of Mines Foundation just started a Venture Fund this past year to support innovation within our faculty, student and alumni communities. I am glad to connect you with the folks on our team who are heading the effort. Please email me csava@mines.edu if you are interested.
