  • 1.  Unsolicited gifts or Gifts solicited by a gift officer

    Posted 06-05-2025 10:02 AM

    HI,

For annual giving, what is the best practice to track unsolicited gifts or gifts solicited by Gift officers

I have. been using appeals "Unsolicited Gifts" and "Personalized Gifts".

Is there any other way that these can be tracked?

    Thanks

Hi Tripti - We use the code "No Appeal" when it isn't a gift with a unique link from a specific email, personalized URL, or mailed reply device.  For gifts associated with gift officers, we code those as Visit or Proposals.  None of it is an exact science!

    Thanks Sandra.
Also - One more question, how do you use Matching Gift -- as a subtype? I have been using as appeal but I think that is not correct.

    thanks for all your help

We use matching gift as an appeal code not as a gift type.

    Tripti,
For the matching gift we use the same appeal code used in the gift that is being matched.

Tripti, what CRM are you using? Most have a "built-in" matching gift type that is automatically assigned when you connect it to a donor's matching gift "claim" (a notation on the individual's gift that a match is expected). Usually, it is not a subtype but a primary type (such as MG). This coding is essential for CASE reporting purposes.

    Thanks Blanca and John.

John, We are on Raisers Edge.

I plan to change recording matching gifts going forward and not recording as appeal. All insights are really appreciated.

    Thanks
