Our hospital foundation is a Type III supporting organization under the 501c3 IRS code. With this designation, we have run into some issues with funding entities we partner with across our health system, but the entities may not be officially linked under our parent organization. I would love to connect with other foundations who are classified as Type III supporting orgs to see if there are ideas we haven't thought of yet that would fix some of our issues.
EXAMPLE: We are the Tampa General Hospital Foundation. We support Tampa General Hospital. Donor wants to support a physician who works at Tampa General Hospital, but the physician works inside of a program/clinic that is part of a partner organization and does not have a TGH budget/cost center to reimburse. Our counsel and finance partners have told us we cannot pay outside of the TGH universe as that would break our "type III support org" rules.
If there are enough of us Type III folks I'd love to set up a call for us to discuss feedback/ideas around this procedures and policies. Thank you!
