  • 1.  Threshold for requiring a deed of gift

    Posted 06-11-2024 01:20 PM

    Hi all,

Is anyone willing to share their dollar value threshold for requiring a deed of gift for in-kind gifts? I think the standard over the years has often been $5,000 since it coincides with the 8283 requirement but it doesn't take much for a value to be over $5,000 for things like equipment and collectibles.

Curious what others are doing. Thanks in advance.

Many of my clients-and the institutions I worked at full time-did not have any "deed of gift." A standard Gift Agreement works just fine; you don't need another form.

Of course, there are many other documents related to real property. However, basic property gifts can be handled through the standard gift agreement process.

Much appreciated, John. That is a very practical approach.
