Good Afternoon,
I have a question regarding attributing a recent gift to our CYE giving. We are in receipt of funds unexpectedly, an admittedly moderate amount, but my boss is asking if we are able to use this toward our Giving Tuesday goal. My silent phase of lead-gift fundraising typically begins in Sept/Oct, with the soft launch on Nov 1, which is when we start counting any and all giving toward this goal -- but I usually don't count gifts this early. Usually we can talk to the donor about it, but in this case, it is a disbursement from an old fund that is being dispensed by a caretaker org many years after the death of the original donor . Would it be unethical to count this gift toward our campaign? I'm in the very early planning stages for the campaign, and I'm not opposed to including this unless there's some grounds for NOT counting it toward the total, on an ethical basis. Would love experts to weigh in. I don't know of any precedent for this and don't know how to describe this to keyword search a knowledge base.
Thanks!
