  • 1.  Quid Pro Quo Receipting: Itemized Market Values or Total Market Value Listed

    Hello,

We are doing a sponsorship gift "invoice" to show our donors their benefits of donating when our MAO ask. On it lists out intended donation and benefits the sponsorship receives. For this and the quid pro quo receipting I have this question -

Do we have to have an itemized list displaying all the benefits and their individual market values associated with each benefit OR can we just lump into one total market value for their gift with a list of benefits underneath (and no individual market values next to the benefits list)?

    Hope can help, thank you!

You do need to itemize the benefits. Please take a look at page 3 of IRS Publication 1771. Each item must be described. This is the only way prospective donors will know what they are eligible to receive and how opting out of one or more items will impact their deduction.

When benefits are voluminous, listing them on a referenced website is a useful alternative.
