  • 1.  Parents make gift for alumna

    Posted 11-28-2022 01:06 PM
We recently had parents of an alumna make a gift to our Annual Fund. They asked that we split the gift 50/50 between them and their daughter. Since the check is in their name, can we give the daughter hard credit? Or would we simply soft credit her? How would we recognize the split gift on their annual giving statements we send in the new year?

    Thanks!

It has to be a legal gift from the parents.  Soft-credit only to the alumna.

Our practice is to input the gift on the parents' record (household), as they are the legal donor and should receive hard credit. We give soft credit to the alumna/us.
