  • 1.  Matching Gift--Law Firm and their associates

    Posted 04-09-2024 10:56 AM

    Hello,

We have a law firm in Montréal that is willing to pledge for 150K$ but they also want their associates to pledge for a git up to 25K$ each. Our colleagues in Development are wanting us to count this as matching gifts but the 150K$ will be given before the associates. Is this a matching git? I don't think so but I want to be sure.

Also, we were ask to record a pledge over 150K$ because it's quite sure that associates will give to the campaing. Of course, I said no because the agreeements is not legally binding our institution with the associates. But my question is: is it a good practice to soft credit the firm when their associates will make their gift?

    Thanks for you feedback.

    Eric

This sounds more like a "challenge" pledge. You can only record a pledge for the amount guaranteed by the company. If their associates make a separate pledge, that would be recorded separately.

Yes, you can soft-credit the firm if that's what you want. However, I would ensure those credits follow your Soft Credit and Recognition Policy.
