Approaching the end of our fiscal year, we have discovered that LexisNexis (we only use the public information area) will be increasing subscription costs by 30% over the next six years. I've also been told by my rep if I cancel my subscription now, it will cost three times as much as we currently pay to sign up new. Are there better tools available for the purpose of looking up addresses and relationships, ideally with more realistic pricing?

    Thank you.

A search of the FundSvcs Community archives produced the following thread. Hopefully it will help!

    Esteemed Colleagues,

I write you with a burning question in my shop.

We love Lexis for Development Professionals, but annual 10% price increases are too much for my little private liberal arts undergrad university. We use LexisDP for prospect research, bio/demo updates, and we occasionally purchase data appends from the company.

Have any of you found and experienced a true competitor that costs less? Or a "close enough" option that costs less?

    Gratefully,

    Stephen

    Hi Stephen,

I highly recommend AlumniFinder.  They have all the tools you need and it's on a cost per use basis (unlimited seats) rather than LN's seat licensing set up.  I've implemented this at two universities with an 80% cost savings.

    Hi Denise,

I have subscribed to LexisNexis at a handful of nonprofit organizations. Because I've seen Lexis's prices be negotiable at different nonprofits, it might be worth trying to negotiate further if you haven't already. Also, in my experience, LexisNexis is foundational for prospect research and development.

    Good luck!

    Tony
