  • 1.  IRA QCD and RMD for sponsorship with FMV

    Posted 11-21-2023 02:28 PM

My understanding is that the donor cannot receive any goods/services when contributing from their Individual Retirement Accounts, correct?  Is there any difference on whether or not is it coming from a QCD vs. RMD?  Also, they can't make up any difference (split) for the FMV with a non IRA account, correct?

    Thank you,

The prohibition applies only to QCDs, which must be used solely for charitable purposes as they are a tax-free withdrawal. Bifurcation on these is not permitted

RMDs can be used for anything - charitable or otherwise - as the donor has paid taxes on those funds and can use them however they want.
