I think your initial impression is accurate. However, a review of the company's detailed matching policies is required.
Some policies I have reviewed state they will only match gifts that qualify for a charitable tax deduction. QCDs do not meet that test. Therefore, if that language exists or there is any ambiguity, it is best to call the company, obtain a verbal okay, and note the name of the employer authority on the matching claim form or in notes on the company record.

We have a question on whether or not an IRA QCD from a donor would qualify for a matching gift. I am assuming the answer is yes unless specifically prohibited by the company's matching guidelines but wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something.
