    Hello everyone,

We are currently in the process of reviewing our gift processing procedures. I am curious to see how you handle "pledges" when there is a signed agreement for a one-time donation to be made at a later date. Do you enter it as a pledge in your database or do you wait until you receive the gift to process it as a one-time gift? If you enter it as a one-time gift, who has the mandate to ensure that the money is paid by the donor?

    Thank you!

I always advise recording the pledge - unless the check comes with it!

Otherwise, it is a bonafide commitment that belongs in your CRM and on your GL.

I instruct my clients to record the pledge with the anticipated payment date as a single payment schedule.  It then becomes "our" responsibility to issue pledge reminders under standard reminder protocols.  Hopefully, those are fully automated.
