  • 1.  gift in kind from multiple donors

    Posted 01-11-2024 07:49 AM

    Good morning!

We have a scenario I've never dealt with before: two donors want to split the cost of a new runners' starting block and donate the item to us.  Our thought is to split the value between the two donors and enter it as two separate gifts – with receipts to the donors with only an item description, not a dollar value. Am I missing anything or are we ok to do it like this?

    Thanks!

    Betsy

Ask each donor to write you a check and YOU purchase the block. Done!

But, yes, you could give both credit if you have a bill of sale reflecting both names and amounts. Of course, their receipts will NOT mention any amount - only that they contributed 50% of the block (which includes a full description of same).
