    Hello,

I am wondering about approaches/policies for dealing with donors/individuals who inquire about receiving a fraudulent transaction refund rather than going the chargeback process route with their credit card company/bank. I am aware that there is the angle about scams intended to use refunds to other cards as fraud/theft. However, I am speaking of what after thorough review comes across characteristically as a fraudulent transaction.

We are presently satisfied with our payment processor fraud settings, etc., but simultaneously wish to acknowledge/assist those with legitimate inquiries. We continue to encourage folks to contact their credit card company or bank. I am curious, though, if anyone here is taking any other steps or also just repeating the same message about contacting one's cc company. Otherwise, do you contact your payment processor should you see a blip of fraudulent activity?

Thanks in advance for any input you may have.

If you receive more than one or two inquiries weekly, there's a problem worth investigating.

One of my clients began encountering a heightened level of these. While I was not involved in the resolution, they did contact their processor and learned a setting had been inadvertently changed (don't ask me what that setting was!).

You probably do not need to do more than you already are. You should have an FAQ on your website instructing your constituents as to what steps they should take. But if there's been a sudden increase in activity, a phone call to your processor certainly would not hurt.
