Hi John, Thanks for this information! This was VERY helpful and put my mind at ease.
The museum's Eventbrite page contract falls within the university's Eventbrite page and I just confirmed we do not technically have a contract with them. We have the "free" version if that helps. I did do some more digging on the Eventbrite Merchant Agreement and their Terms of Services and there is no information on Donation Tax Receipts.
But I do agree with you, that I will be issuing IRS receipts for all these gifts; just in case.

Gizel, I would ask the museum that entered into a contract with Eventbrite for a copy of the contract. However, Eventbrite does not operate as a DAF or separate foundation. While they will issue a "receipt" confirming the purchase, it likely will not meet IRS requirements.
On the other hand, as the gifts will likely fall below the IRS $250 minimum for requiring a receipt - and since only 1-in-10 individuals are itemizing these days - you might be fine not issuing a proper IRS receipt unless one is requested.
I like issuing IRS receipts for all gifts of any amount. But this could be an exception if the museum acknowledges the payments.

We have a museum within our university who is having an free admission event on Eventbrite. They decided to offer "Donation" as a ticket type to anyone who would like to donate to the museum.
Does anyone know if they provide tax receipts for this "ticket" type? I can't find anything on their website about it and I tried contacting them but their customer service contact information is nowhere to be found unless you pay for that feature, that's what I understand.
Does anyone have a process for their Eventbrite donations? Should we be providing their tax receipt or does Eventbrite?
Any useful information would be very helpful! Thanks!
