Hello Friends,
My school has been hosting an event annually for some time on behalf of an unrelated non-profit (our students and faculty may attend for free). This other .org sources the sponsors and these dollars are made payable to my school and we deposit, as well as managing/collecting all of the registration fees from outside attendees.
We pay all the bills for the event from the sponsorships and attendee registration fees. Whatever dollars remain after expenses are split between my school and the other .org.
The sponsor dollars have never been treated as donations to the school (fyi sponsors receive name recognition only). This is now being questioned. Should the sponsor money be treated as donations?
Oh and there is no documented agreement to rely on between the .org and the school.
Thoughts??
