We have an annual gala registration process which provides the registrants an opportunity to sponsor the attendance of a student or a member of the campus community. The student affairs office has selected the students who would attend the event. This year a significant donor has inquired about providing 5 student sponsorships for the event, but would like to name the five students to receive sponsorships. We are working under the assumption that like scholarships if we do not pick the beneficiaries of the event sponsorship, we cannot consider this a gift.
