  • 1.  Deferred spend of scholarship donation

Hi all, and Happy New Year!

We received a 7-figure donation for a spend-down scholarship, but finance put the money in a holding account, as we are actually spending it spread across ~10 years. Is there some way that I should be recording this in CRM rather than just an outright gift in a restricted fund, to account for the slow spend of the funds? (finance has it taken care of on their end, so that isn't an issue)

I would record it as an outright gift. Many donations are spent over time. That includes research grants and construction projects.

You might wish to add a comment to the gift record, though.

Agreed … in addition, you can probably put on the fund indications/indicators on how it will be spent/drawn down … we do this on scholarships where donors prepay but have a specific amount each year that should be spent
