  • 1.  DAF Organization Question

    When a donor recommends a grant from a DAF organization, can they provide an alternate address for mailing of the check vs. the legal address? 

    We have 23 different fundraising foundations each with their own EINs and addresses.  With the work at home environment created by COVID, many checks that are mailed to the foundations directly are going missing since gift officers are no longer co-located there.   I would like to create instructions for donors that they provide the Gift Processing address to the DAF orgs regardless of which foundation they choose to give to, but don't know if the DAFs will only accept the legal address.

    I can certainly start calling around, but was hoping someone in this group might have this experience already.

    I don't see any reason why that would be a problem. Many Orgs use a lockbox with a bank address for similar reasons.

    For better or worse, they can provide any address they'd like. 

    We have DAF checks that get mailed directly to faculty members and departments other than ours! Also, someone else mentioned this, but we use a lockbox address for this specific purpose. It is not the same address as on our 990, W9, etc.
