  • 1.  DAF against Pledge Payments

I'm reading a lot of conflicting information concerning DAF and Pledge Payments.  Have the regulations from the IRS changed and are now allowing DAF's to pay donor pledges directly?

No. The regulations have not changed. The IRS issued a Notice that permitted this in 2017, but only in some instances. But more importantly, most DAFs state in their acceptance language that regardless of what the IRS might allow, they do not allow it!

I've attached my paper on the topic that includes a reference to the 2017 notice. I am including snippets from a recent presentation using Fidelity and Schwab as examples of what DAFs say on the subject below.

Kimberly, no change to the rules, but if you'd like to see the latest go-round over this issue here on the list, you can check it out here: https://aasp.connectedcommunity.org/discussion/liberal-daf-pledge-policy-anyone-relaxing-your-stance#bmfd65f846-504e-47aa-bae8-c4de0d65e101
