    Hello,

Has anyone else received this message from Venmo and Candid [right before the end of our Fiscal Year]?

    This is the email:
    Venmo
Take action to start receiving donations again.

We've been notified that your charity is not in good standing with the following governing agencies:
Your charity has opted out of Online Giving through Candid. To resume receiving donations, please update your charity status through your charity profile on Candid (guidestar.org).
By law, we can't allow your charity to receive any more donations on Venmo until you've resolved the issue(s) with these agencies.
We know donations are a charity's livelihood and want to get your charity profile back up and receiving donations again as soon as possible. Here's the path forward to do that.

Contact the above agencies, and work with them to resolve any issues.
Once your status has been reinstated by all applicable agencies, we'll be notified and resume your ability to receive donations.
We'll email you as soon as you can receive donations on Venmo again. However, if you haven't heard from us after a few days of being reinstated, don't hesitate to contact us at 1-855-812-4430.
Learn more about these regulations in our Help Center.

Check the sending email address. If it's venmo@email.venmo.com this is a phishing attempt.

The phone number is a legitimate Venmo number. However, the phishing alert websites encourage you to call them before taking any action.

    Thank you John.

It did come from their legitimate email, venmo@venmo.com

It just seems like poor timing, and now we are experiencing difficulties in trying to "re-register".

Ugh. Yours is the first report I've heard of this.

You should contact your business office to determine where the opt-out request originated. The notice you received suggests that this was an intentional act by someone at Bard. My concern is that even if you resolve this issue, it may recur.

On the other hand, you may not have received very many Venmo payments, and the impact might be minimal.

    Hi,

Last spring we had a similar issue with our Facebook Fundraising, there was some technicality issue pertaining to us not being registered with California's Dept of Justice and Franchise Tax Board which cause us to be on the blocked list with the Franchise Tax Board. It took a few months to get ironed out and numerous emails (as you can't call anyone) with PayPal. Venmo is a PayPal product, may be something to check.

Robert, are you sure this isn't just a nag to get you to more fully fill out your candid profile?

I checked your Venmo profile and you are still verified, and there doesn't seem to be any impediment to you accepting donations from Venmo on the user end. You can test with a minimal donation from your side to confirm.

Thank you all for great advice. Venmo finally returned our calls, and after saying we were ready to bring in legal counsel–– the issue has been resolved.

    regards,

    Robert
