  • 1.  Board Seat as QPQ

    Posted 06-02-2023 02:11 PM

Has anyone ever promised/guaranteed a board seat for a donor (or their nominee) in perpetuity (with power passed to future generations) as a condition of their commitment? How did this affect the deductibility of the gift? Was a fmv for the board seat calculated for receipt purposes? If so, how?

    Thanks.

Unless other Board members have to "pay to play" - then being given a seat is not a tangible benefit. However, doing this violates ethical considerations and guidelines as outlined in the newest CASE Standards. They specifically discuss circumstances where donations provide donors with undo influence - which this clearly would create.
