  • 1.  Blended Gift Requirement

Does your organization require that gifts to the endowment include a portion for annual giving?  For example, for a $100,000 gift, $5,000 would automatically be directed to annual giving as specified in the gift agreement.   If yes, is there anything we should consider in implementing this policy?   Grateful for any guidance you can provide.  Thank you!    Mark

Require? I cannot say I have seen that and worry that a mandate would violate the IRS requirement that a gift be made voluntarily.

But I sure would hate to lose an endowment gift if a donor didn't want also to make an annual fund gift.

Years ago, when we were in The Campaign for Duke, we strongly encouraged a blended gift when asking for any major gift. And we developed a special pledge form for that purpose. But we never forced a donor to bifurcate their commitment.
