  • 1.  2025 IRS token item, etc. amounts

    Posted 10-11-2024 10:35 AM

    Happy Friday!

I've searched for the answer but have come up empty; has the IRS released the 2025 insubstantial benefit amount? Sorry, I may not be asking the right question but this is what I am referring to:

    Thank you!

    Amanda

No, they have not. And I promise to publish them as soon as I receive the notice from the IRS.

It is a bit early for the IRS to send out these updates. Last year it was on November 9. The year before was in mid-October but the previous year it was in early November.

You are good to be looking! But it might be another month or so. It also might be next week :-).

This was a good reminder to me and I sent out reminders to my team about it.

One of our fundraisers believes that these gift restrictions don't apply to giving circles, where if someone donates $1,000 they join the giving circle. John, is there anything to back that idea up?

No basis for that claim. The rules apply to any gift that results in a benefit.

Of course at $1,000 you can provide benefits valued at under $20 (cumulative). Although DAF and private foundation donors can only EVER receive token benefits.

I figured but thanks for confirming.

Yes and thank you for the reminder that DAF and private donation donors can only ever receive token benefits.
