Karen: In my experience in Raiser's Edge we only separated parents if one or both were alumni of our institution. The only time we would mass mail one but not the other was if one was an alumna/us but not the other, or if both were alumni but they graduated from different colleges or programs (or if one was an athlete, etc. depending on the type of mass mailing).
